My friend John he’s always on the make, a married woman is all it takes. It’s all real good, yeah it’s all real good, it’s all real good but I just can’t get it straight. John asked some guy to buy him a beer, got punched in the face and called a queer. John’s got himself a big surprise, got caught in bed with the boss’s wife. John likes to laugh about the fun he’s had, ripping off money from his girlfriend’s dad. John says it’s time for him to hit the road, the good lord told him it’s time to go.

It’s a cold wind blowing clouds rolling in the sky Hobos in the train yard starting a fire A chill in the air of anger, it’s begun to intensify Lady Luck, please don’t pass us by In the center of the city I’ll be looking for you Angry crowds getting ready to crucify The days are getting shorter, nights are getting long Lady Luck, please don’t pass us by Brown leaves on the concrete, a patch of snow on the ground The surge of marching people all around Standing by the car I’ll be waiting for you Together we’ll try to push on through Lady Luck, please don’t pass us by Don’t pass us by…

I been lying low in the shadows hiding behind the locks. Money I stole if she finds me I’ll be hung up behind the docks. Hey hey don’t ever cross the wharf rats Run if she ever finds you from the wrath of the hellcat. I sleep all day in the cellar wake up to drink me my swill. At night I creep up to Orange Street I go and get me my Phil Now Maggie I knows if she finds me, she go and bite off my ear. Then claw me up and hang me, that’s why I live in such fear.
4.
It’s another night downtown and the joint is swinging hard I can can hear Wynonie Harris on the jukebox at the bar There’s old Sam in his zoo suit sporting his new wingtips He’s tossing up girls in the air and catching them on his hips I’m dancing on top of the world (3x) Yes I am Over there it’s Candy sporting her new tattoo She’s looking good like you knew she would, she’s a viper through and through It’s 3 am at Lee’s Supper Club and nothing’s going down I’ll head on over to the Greatest Bar and see who’s still around.
5.
Let it all hang out you’ve got nothing to lose Let it all hang out quit feeling the blues Now’s the time to take a chance come with me and let’s dance in the rain Naked in the rain Naked in the rain Naked in the rain You know me well you know I wouldn’t lie You know me well I couldn’t if I tried So come on and feel romance Come with me and let’s dance in the rain Naked in the rain Naked in the rain Naked in the rain Please take my hand and let’s step outside Please take my hand and let’s go for a ride Now’s the time to take a chance come with me and let’s dance in the rain Naked in the rain

Wandering stars led me to this place. Wandering stars led me to my fate To be loved, be loved, be loved, by someone like you. The road I’m on, there is no end. The road I’m on, just looking for a friend. Soon I must go but my journey is still clear Soon I must go but tonight I’m still here.

I’ve been waiting all my life for this moment to arrive Now I’m ready, yes I’m ready to let love begin All those bad times are in the past Now I’ve found true love at last And I’m ready, yes I’m ready to let love begin Yes I’m ready for a new life Without all of the sorrow and pain Cause I’ve been hurt so many times And I won’t let it happen again Please take me in your arms Show me that I belong Cause I’m ready, yes I’m ready to let love begin Yes I’m ready for a new life To help me heal my headache Cause I’ve been hurt so many times And I’ve had all I can take I’ve been waiting all my life for this moment to arrive Now I’m ready, yes I’m ready to let love begin.
9.
Well jump into the fire, well that’s my desire To be with you again like when we were more than friends Everything is better the second time around Well I know it’s not my place, well but when I see your face It makes me feel like I was a fool back when I thought I was so cool Well the time slips away, well it feels like yesterday Those nights when I’m down walking by myself downtown.

about

It’s All Real Good is the new album from American roots and blues artist Phil Gammage. For this project, Phil found inspiration in such classic acoustic records as Johnny Cash’s American Recordings and the recordings of legendary blues artists such as John Lee Hooker and Lightnin’ Hopkins. Each song not only has Phil’s 1970 Gibson Heritage acoustic guitar at the center, but it also features the talents of great musicians like Kenny Margolis, Tony Mann, David Fleming, and Michele Butler. The main showcase of It’s All Real Good however, is Phil’s songwriting — all nine songs were penned by Gammage.

Recording sessions were produced by Tony Mann (The Star Spangles, Jayne County, The Hypno-Twists). Stand out tracks include “Dancing on Top of the World” — Phil’s tribute to the late great New York City music venue Windows on the World (on the top floor of the World Trade Center), “Hellcat Maggie” about the 19th century American folk legend, and the Roy Orbinson-esque “Let Love Begin”.
