Pick Me Up on Your Way Down (single)

You were mine for just a while Now your putting on the style And you never once looked back To your home across the track You're the gossip of the town But my heart can still be found Where you tossed it on the ground Pick me up on your way down Pick me up on your way down When your blue and all alone When their glamor starts to bore you Come back where you belong When you learn these things are true I'll be waiting here for you When you tumble to the ground Pick me up on your way down They have changed your attitude Made you haughty and so rude Your new friends can take the blame Underneath you're still the same You may be their pride and joy But they'll find another toy When your new love can't be found Pick me up on your way down

about

PHIL GAMMAGE returns with a new single, his version of the honky-tonk classic “Pick Me Up on Your Way Down”. Phil puts his own spin on a song recorded by such legends as Patsy Cline, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ray Price, and others. With a hard driving shuffle rhythm and contagious melody this recording sticks in your head.

“The timeless lyrics about lost love and economic class are as strong a statement as when they were written over 60 years ago.” said Phil.

“I first heard the song on a used Webb Pierce album I bought years ago at a sidewalk sale on Saint Mark’s Place in New York. It struck me immediately as one of those 1950s-era country music tunes with remarkable lyrics. It’s a jewel and it’s message relates so much to our modern world.”

“This song and the outsider art painting are a happy accident when presented together” Phil reveals. They are two artistic works from the past that deal with the same powerful theme.”

“Pick Me Up on Your Way Down” features the talents of Brian Hack on guitars (Rover Boys Trio, Screaming Rebel Angels), Jeff Gordon on bass, and Michael Fox on drums. Recorded at 30 Below Studio and others. Produced by Gammage. Engineered by Brent McLachlan and Gammage.
